Monique Alvarez

Monique Alvarez is an Actress, Writer and Producer based in New York and Los Angeles. Monique is a Cuban/Colombian-American storyteller. A classically trained actress, writer and filmmaker with roots in theater and improv comedy, she brings a certain kind of spontaneity to her work. A versatile artist in both comedy and drama, she's worked with some of the greats- Christopher Walken, Kevin Bacon, Clark Johnson- throughout her career in film, television and voiceover. In the New York theater scene, Monique developed the spontaneous quality to her work at The Barrow Group theater and performing live. Hailing from the Cuban mecca of Hialeah at the heart of Miami, FL, Monique injects her colorful bicultural and bilingual experience into the stories she conveys, always aiming for authenticity. Monique's origins as a writer stem from her creative writing and theatre studies at Florida State University, and her mentorship with the late playwright, Mark Medoff. In London, she studied playwriting under Mark Wheatley upon completing classical training at Shakespeare & Co. She attributes her inquisitive approach to her time as a reporter for the local NPR. And it's her beginnings in improv, her time at the Upright Citizens Brigade and iOWest, and television writing studies at The Second City that steered her toward 'comedy with heart'. Monique strives to tell unique stories that give voice to underrepresented people and communities, but that speak to our universal shared experience. The theme of identity and how it plays into relationship dynamics is often at the center. Monique's recent series of sketch comedy videos for 'My Abuela in Miami' that she also starred in and directed showcase her eccentric Cuban culture in the singular neighborhood of Hialeah, FL. Her sketch videos quickly went viral, making headlines on newspapers in print across Florida and illuminating this outrageous and outstanding community she comes from. Coming soon, Monique can be seen as Jane Doe in the film 'Percy' starring Christopher Walken, and she can be heard as the voice of Carmen in 'Paw Patrol: The Movie' and Esmeralda in 'Shugirl'.
