Alex Ranarivelo
Born in Saint-Jean-d'Angely, France. Raised in New-York and Los Angeles.
A prolific, visual, and collaborative storyteller brought up on Sergio Leone and "Star Wars" - He graduated at the top of his class with a B.F.A in film production from Art Center College of Design. In 2010, Alex's action adventure script "The Girl With No Name" won the Grand Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival Screenwriting Competition and was subsequently purchased by Co-Op Entertainment.
Alex pulled from his experiences as a street-racer for his first directing gig, "Born To Race", for ESX Entertainment. A teen action film centered around a father/son story. It was a domestic and international hit in the home video market and has grown a cult following. Rips of the movie on YouTube regularly get up to 15 million views.
Alex subsequently went on to direct 10 films for ESX, including "American Wrestler", about a 17 year-old Iranian refugee who defies adversity and becomes the high school wrestling champion during the Iran hostage crisis of 1980. It stars Jon Voight, William Fichtner and newcomer George Kosturos. The film won multiple awards on the festival circuit including "Best Picture" and "Best Ensemble" at the Boston Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Austin Film and Napa Film Festivals.
Alex went back to the motor sports world for two more films, "Dirt", starring Kevin Dillon, set in the redneck sport of off-road truck racing, and "Bennett's War", set in the world of motocross, which was theatrically released in 2019.
Alex's next movie "The Ride", starring Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges and Sasha Alexander, premiered on Amazon Prime in November 2020 to glowing audience reviews, where it held the top spot in "popular movies" for a week straight. His latest movie, the Mixed-Martial-Arts drama "Born a Champion" is set to release in January 2021.
In 2019, Co-op Entertainment teamed up with Legion M and turned Alex's script "The Girl With No Name" into a comic book and launched a Kickstarter campaign to manage the pre-sales. It obliterated its funding goal within 4 hours and set a Kickstarter record, becoming the most backed comic book of all-time. "The Girl With No Name" is anticipated to go into production in 2021 with Tanya Wexler at the helm (director of 'Jolt' starring Kate Beckinsale).
Alex prides himself first and foremost with the performance of his cast. He has worked with veteran actors such as Jane Seymour, Sharon Stone, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Lea Thompson, Tommy Flanagan and Dennis Quaid.
Alex is an avid car enthusiast and resides in Santa Monica, CA.
