Nicholas Day

Mr Day was born in 1947 and studied at Bristol University, graduating in the late 1960s. He began his stage career with regional theatre and has become a respected name in stage circles, joining the National Theatre under the direction of Richard Eyre in the David Hare trilogy and as the original Stephen in Patrick Marber's 'Dealer's Choice' as well as seven seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company, notably during the World Shakespeare Festival in 2012 and in the controversial 2011 revival of the Marat/Sade.. He was a founder member of the Original Shakespeare Company experimenting in cue scripts and minimal rehearsal and has led workshops in both Britain and America, as well as teaching drama at the Plumstead Manor school in the 1980s and publishing a book 'On Bard Duty' recounting his experiences with the RSC and giving a background to the company and the theatre. In 1991 he took on the role of DS Morley, Arthur Daley's would-be nemesis for the last three series of 'Minder'. Twelve years later he appeared in the first series of 'New Tricks' as the boss of the original 'Minder' Dennis Waterman, over the years building up an enviable television CV in the likes of 'Poirot, 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Foyle's War'.
