She attended Seoul Arts Jr. College. Yang debuted as a stage actress in 1985. In 1995, she was in "An Old Prostitute's Song," which won her a best performance award at the 19th Seoul Theater Festival. In 2008, Yang returned to the stage playing the role of Min-ja, a singer who works at a nightclub, in the theater production of "Minja's Golden Age."
